Medieval "Baseball" (Stool Ball)
Friday evening & Saturday after court
The game we know as baseball may be relatively modern, but it has medieval roots. Many bat-and-ball games were played throughout the Middle Ages at religious festivals and events, and these are the games that eventually developed into baseball and cricket.
Stool ball is the likely ancestor of both cricket and baseball. Anyone who wants to play can play (all ages welcome), and spectators are welcome too! There will be some handouts; first-come first-served for those. This is not a lecture format class; basically you'll learn how the game works and then we will play the game as long as people want to.
Wear comfy clothes if you are going to play, and I recommend bringing water to stay hydrated while playing. Peanuts and a medieval version of Cracker Jacks optional. ;)
Siege Engine Golf
A Warm Greeting To The Silly Engineers Of Our Beloved An Tir
This year at the Celebration of Sheepstow a game will be played. A game where silly meets science, where careful engineering meets blind luck, and where thinking too much for your own good is turned into a pastime.
My Lords and Ladies, and kids of all ages; I would like to invite you to come and play SIEGE ENGINE GOLF.
In this game we combine aspects of horse shoes (close counts for points) with the game of golf (roughly). A short form of rules will follow. The person with the most points, and in some cases the most silliness, wins.
Come and support the arts and sciences by attending this great event. Come cheer on the perfectly sane adults giggling like 10 year olds.
Please feel free to contact me regarding the complete rules, equipment requirements and whatever else you don't understand about this game!
- Large engines though welcome have been shown to not have much range with such a light projectile. It is my opinion that the faster arm speed of the smaller weapons have an advantage over the slower power of the big toys.
- You could use bungee cords or springs instead of ropes. I have seen drop fired trebuchets. (condensed rules)
