Not-random ten
Posting a random ten seems out-of-place this week. But I will post a list of songs. Hearing so much about New Orleans this week has made me want to hear music that reminds me of the city (and not that damned “City of New Orleans” song that tormented my brain on my whole trip from Chicago to New Orleans on the City of New Orleans train in 1994). So here are a few of the songs I’ve been listening to this week:
“Louisiana 1927” — Randy Newman
“St James Infirmary” — Preservation Hall Jazz Band
“Ory’s Creole Trombone” — Louis Armstrong
“Darktown Strutter’s Ball” — New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra
“Mardi Gras Zydeco” — Clifton Chenier
“Jambalaya” — Fats Domino
“Iko, Iko” — Dr. John
“Mardi Gras in New Orleans” — Dirty Dozen Brass Band
“Blues for New Orleans” — Duke Ellington
“Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans” — Louis Armstrong
Probably not “New Orleans is Sinking” by the Tragically Hip, as great a song as that is.
