  The 4 Basic Tags
<HTML></HTML> Contains an entire HTML document
<HEAD></HEAD> Important information not displayed on the web page, including the TITLE
<BODY></BODY> The visible portion of the document.
<TITLE></TITLE> Puts the name of the document in the title bar above the window
 
  Text Tags
<PRE></PRE> Preformatted text
<Hn></Hn> A headline. N stands for a number, 1-6. 1 is the highest-level headline; 6 is the lowest
<B></B> Bold text
<I></I> Italic text
<TT></TT> Teletype or typewriter-style text
<CITE></CITE> A citation, usually italic
<EM></EM> Emphasizes a word
<STRONG></STRONG> Strongly emphasizes a word
<FONT SIZE="?"></FONT> Allows you to specify a font size (1-7)
<FONT COLOR="?"></FONT> Allows you to specify a font color

<A HREF="URL"></A> Creates a link
<A HREF="mailto:me@me.com"></A> Creates a mailto link
<A NAME="ANCHORNAME"></A> Creates an anchor
<A HREF="#ANCHORNAME"></A> Links to the anchor
 
  Formatting Tags
<P></P> Paragraph
<P ALIGN="?"> Allows you to align a paragraph to left, right, or center
<BR> Line break
<BLOCKQUOTE></BLOCKQUOTE> Blockquote
<DL></DL> Definition list
<DT> Marks a definition term
<DD> Marks a "definition definition" :-)
<OL></OL> Creates an ordered list (numerical order)
<UL></UL> Creates a bulleted list (UL means UNordered list)
<LI></LI> Surrounds each list item in a UL or OL
<DIV ALIGN="?"> A generic tag used to format large blocks of HTML, also used for stylesheets. More correct than the common <CENTER> tag.
